Box Hill Institute is one of Victoria’s largest education providers, managing a diverse, highly technical and commercially complex campus portfolio.

We’re seeking an experienced Manager - Building Systems & Compliance to take ownership of critical building systems, compliance and safety outcomes across our sites. This is a senior leadership role for a facilities, construction or building services professional who can confidently lead people, manage risk, and deliver compliant, high-performing environments, today and into the future.

Note: This role is a 12 month fixed term opportunity

About the Role

You’ll lead the Building Systems & Compliance function, ensuring all building services and works are compliant, fit for purpose and optimised for long-term performance.

You’ll provide strategic oversight across essential services, technical systems, contractors and budgets, while partnering closely with internal stakeholders to support safe, reliable learning environments for staff and students.

This role blends strategy, compliance, commercial operations and people leadership - with real influence across a large, multi-site organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and develop a specialist team across building systems and compliance
  • Ensure compliance with ESM, building codes, OH&S and statutory requirements
  • Oversee commercial building systems including BMS, CCTV, access control and security
  • Drive planned, preventative maintenance and asset optimisation strategies
  • Manage consultants, contractors and contracts, including KPIs and performance outcomes
  • Lead facilities-related incident response and emergency management
  • Manage budgets, forecasting and delivery of works and projects
  • Provide high-quality reporting, analysis and recommendations to inform decisions
  • Develop long-term strategies for building systems, infrastructure and compliance uplift

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience leading teams in facilities, construction or building services
  • Strong background in commercial building operations at scale
  • In-depth knowledge of building compliance, ESM and workplace health & safety
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets, contracts and projects
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and report-writing capability
  • Ability to operate strategically while remaining hands-on
  • Confident stakeholder engagement and influencing skills

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Degree in Facilities Management, Building/Construction, Engineering, Trade or similar (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong construction WHS and building compliance knowledge
  • First Aid Level 2 (or willingness to obtain)
